Moving Forward
This Omeka exhibit provides a snapshot of the information I gathered and my attempts to display that information in a useful manner. However, at most, it motions toward what I hope will be possible in the future, where the exhibit itself is a large scale, layered, and interactive map that presents an argument about the past.
This project has been an experiment in learning by doing, and as such, has been successful. I am now much more aware of the potential for and challenges facing the use of geospatial analysis for historical questions. Although an answer is not apparent to my question of how the frontier and early Methodism interacted, my experimentation has validated for me that the process of layering geospatial information in order to find instructive patterns has potential as a way of addressing historical questions.
